THE COUNTDOWN to Christmas will get underway in Shannon this Monday with the official switching on of the Christmas Lights.
A free family-friendly event will take place at Shannon town park from 5.30pm, with events for all ages beforehand the turning on of the lights at 6pm.
A visit from the one and only Santa Claus is on the cards, along with Ms Claus, as well as a Christmassy disco, sweets and treats and a choir performance from the Shannon Gospel Choir.

The cathaoirleach of the Shannon Municipal District, Cllr Donna McGettigan, says she's looking forward to flicking the switch.
“This will be a positive for Shannon. I don’t think we’ve ever had an official turning on of the lights in Shannon before,” Cllr McGettigan said.
