THERE were joyful scenes at Dublin Airport this Saturday morning as hundreds of Irish troops were flown home from a deployment in Lebanon.
Over 200 Irish troops from the 122nd Infantry Battalion, United Nations Interim Force Lebanon (UNIFIL) returned to Ireland on Saturday, November 25, following a six-month deployment to South Lebanon.
The personnel landed in Dublin at approximately 11.15am, and were met by their families and friends.
Drawn from many different units around the country across the Army and Air Corps, the majority of the 122nd Infantry Battalion's personnel are drawn from the 12th Infantry Battalion based in Sarsfield Barracks, Limerick city, with others hailing from Clare, Cork and Dublin.
Posting on social media, the Defence Forces welcomed home the men and women of the 122nd Infantry Battalion.
"After a 6 month tour of duty in Lebanon our personnel are safely back on Irish soil! Enjoy your time off and have a great Christmas!" a post on X(formerly Twitter) read.
"Best of luck to the 123rd Battalion, now deployed to UNIFIL, continuing Ireland’s unbroken record of service in the cause of international peace and security," it continued.
