A FORMER publican and ‘great character’, Jim Cullinane, has passed away.
Mr Cullinane of Greenfields, Rosbrien, Limerick passed away unexpectedly at home on October 30.
Mr Cullinane and his wife of over 50 years, Miriam, ran Charlie Malones for over 30 years. The couple acquired the pub shortly after marrying one another in 1970. They have two children, James and Tracey.
Mr Cullinane is thought to have spent his last weekend doing something he loved - golfing in Lahinch, where he was a member with the club since 1995.
Originally from Grange/Crecora, Mr Cullinane joined the ESB in 1967 and was later known to regularly visit Stryker. The family had a holiday home in Lahinch since the mid-1980’s and regularly visited.
When visiting their Clare holiday home, Mr Cullinane was known to have his weekly round of golf with the seniors group every Wednesday. He also served as the secretary for the Limerick Vintners Golf Society for years.
According to Lahinch golf club, Jim was “well respected by everyone” and his “smile, jovial nature and warm personality will be remembered by all who knew him”.
Other condolences online reflected on Jim’s ‘warm’ and ‘gentle nature’, with one person who offered sympathies saying: “Sincere condolences to the Cullinane family on the sad loss of Jimmy. Jimmy always had time for a chat & time spent in his company flew with his sense of humour and his stories. A great character who will be sorely missed. Rest in Peace.”
Another said: “So sorry to hear of Jimmy's passing. He was a gentleman. I have great memories of him from Stryker. We enjoyed the GAA chats and were always up for the chats and the laughs. Rest in Peace Jimmy.”
