CLARE County Council has granted planning permission for a new solar farm in Ardnacrusha.
The 70-hectare development, when complete, will be located across 38 different sites and will operate for 40 years.
AECOM Ireland Limited sought permission earlier this year on behalf of client Harmony Solar Clare Limited - a company owned by Harmony Solar Ireland Limited and ESB Solar Ireland Limited.
The solar farm development will be located to the west and north west of Ardnacrusha within the townlands of Castlebank, Glenlon North, Glenlon South, Drummin and Ballykeelaun.
According to planning documents, the project will see the installation of 300,000 square metres of solar panels on ground mounted steel frames, an electrical substation with an electrical control building, underground power and communication cables.
Entrances to the site from the public road network will also be upgraded.
In addition, new boundary fencing will be installed including over 600 metres of acoustic barrier fencing on the eastern boundary.
The solar farm will be operational for 40 years and a Natural Impact Statement was included as part of the application.
The local authority, which received seven submissions during the planning process, has imposed a number of conditions.
