GARDAÍ have urged motorists on Clare roads to "drive with caution" and take care as students across the county return to school this week.
"As both primary and secondary students are returning to school, we want to remind drivers to drive with caution when passing schools in towns and villages throughout the county," An Garda Síochána said in a statement.
They also called on motorists to be aware of children coming out from behind buses or cars that they have alighted from, to slow down and drive at an appropriate speed, and not to park illegally outside schools.
"For parents or anyone dropping students to school to ensure everyone in your vehicle is wearing their safety belt and to ensure all children are in a suitable safety seat," the statement continued.
It comes as Gardaí confirm almost 30 road deaths in the wake of a spike in fatalities in August.
26 people have been killed on Irish roads within 30 days.
A statement posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, reads: "These people are young and old, from different places and backgrounds but all have lost their lives far too soon. We must all take care of ourselves and one another on our roads. Please share this message."
