In Pictures: Out and about at the KPMG Women's Irish Open Pro-Am at Dromoland Castle

SOME of the best female golfers in the world have descended on County Clare for the KPMG Women's Irish Open which is taking place at Dromoland Castle and Golf Club.

While the championship starts on Thursday, competitors took the course for the first time this Wednesday for the Pro-Am event which featured a number of high-profile amateur players.

Former Clare goalkeeper and current Waterford  hurling manager Davy Fitzgerald was among those who teed it up along with Munster Rugby players Joey Carbery and Jack O'Donoghue and All-Ireland winning Galway hurler Joe Canning.

Last year’s KPMG Women’s Irish Open was the first staging of the event on home soil since 2012 following a ten-year hiatus from the Ladies European Tour, which saw 25,000 visitors coming through the gates of Dromoland Castle.

The prize fund for this year's tournament, which continues until Sunday, is €400,000.
