A number of walk-in Covid vaccination clinics will open in Ennis this weekend
THE Department of Public Health Mid-West is urging people, aged 12 and older, to avail of their Covid-19 booster vaccine by attending a free walk-in clinic over the bank holiday weekend.
Figures collated by the department, show that almost two-thirds (65%) of people aged 18 and older in Clare, Limerick and North Tipperary have not had their second booster vaccine, while than more 50% of people aged 65 and older not availed of their third booster vaccine.
This, it says, presents an increased risk of Covid-19 spread in the community, and serious illness in the vulnerable and elderly population.
Between January 1 and January 21, there were 465 confirmed cases of Covid-19 across Clare, Limerick and North Tipperary.
"While the incidence of Covid-19 has declined since Christmas, it continues to circulate widely in the community, with continued negative impacts on our health services," said a spokesperson.
A free walk-in vaccination clinic will open at the former Outpatients Deptarment at Ennis General Hospital, Gort Road, Ennis between 8.30am and 5.30pm this Friday; between 9am and 5pm on Saturday and between 10am and 5pm on Sunday.
Walk-in clinics will also open in both Limerick city and Nenagh over the weekend.
The Department of Public Health Mid-West is advising those aged between 18 and 49 that must wait six months since their previous dose or Covid-19 infection to avail of their next booster vaccine.
