Both the Rescue 115 Coast Guard helicopter and the Kilkee Coast Guard Unit assisted
A surfer who was airlifted to hospital is understood to be recovering after getting into difficulty at Ballard Bay, just south of Doonbeg, on Sunday morning.
On January 11, the Marine Rescue Sub Centre (MRSC) in Valentia received a report of this distressing incident, which took place at about 11:30am near Rileys Wave, an area famous amongst surfers.

MRSC Valentia tasked both the Rescue 115 Coast Guard helicopter and the Kilkee Coast Guard Unit to assist. The National Ambulance Service and members of An Garda Síochána were also present.
According to RTÉ News, the surfer sustained an injury throughout the ordeal, with the rescue operation being described as "difficult" due to the weather conditions at the time. The casualty was airlifted to University Hospital Galway.
A spokesperson for the Irish Coast Guard said, "The surfer was located and evacuated for medical treatment."
