ELECTED: Cathal Crowe re-elected on 15th count in Clare

The Fianna Fail TD dedicated his win to his late mother-in-law, killed in a tragic road accident in November

ELECTED: Cathal Crowe re-elected on 15th count in Clare

Fianna Fail's Cathal Crowe has retained his seat and is the second TD elected here in Clare in the 2024 General Election.

Deputy Crowe picked up 920 votes out of the 4,978 distributed after the elimination of Eddie Punch (II), bringing him up to 12,344 votes and well clear of the 12,182 quota.

An emotional Crowe dedicated his win to his late mother-in-law Mary Fehilly, calling her "a mighty woman, a Fianna Fail woman".

The late Mrs Fehilly, aged in her 70s, of Holy Cross Place, Charleville and late of Clonroosk, Feenagh, passed away in Cork University Hospital after she was struck by a car that had mounted a kerb in early November, just before this election was called.

The returning TD's surplus of 162 was deemed insufficient to make any material difference to the remaing candidates, so it's the Green Party's deputy leader, Roisin Garvey, who has been eliminated.
