General Election 2024: Final Clare tallies show Fianna Fáil holding strong

First count in Clare's four seat constituency could be as late as 9pm this Saturday night

General Election 2024: Final Clare tallies show Fianna Fáil holding strong

The final tallies from all 180 ballot boxes in county Clare show Fianna Fáil firmly in pole position.

Senator Timmy Dooley looks primed to retake his seat here at the count centre at Treacy's West County Hotle in Ennis, in the lead with 11,041 first preferences tallied.

His party colleague, incumbant Cathal Crowe has moved into a strong second place already, after trailing in fourth place through much of the tallying.

Clare County Councillor Joe Cooney looks to keep Fine Gael's seat for the county, well outperforming his running mates Leonora Carey and Dr Tom Nolan.

Sinn Fein's Cllr Donna McGettigan is hanging in for the fourth seat, despite slipping behind Cathal Crowe in the tallies, and we may yet see a further shake up once transfers come into play.

Speaking to local media, count supervisor Kieran O'Donnell has stated that the quota will likely be over 12,000, to be finalised after all spoilt votes have been analysed.

No time has been confirmed yet for the first count.

A time of 6pm has been positively hinted at by count staff, however it could be much later than that, as we are being reminded that it was 9.15pm in 2020 when the first count was given.
