Clare joint camogie captain Clare Hehir in action
JOINT Clare camogie captain Clare Hehir has urged banner fans to get behind the team ahead of a crucial showdown with Cork this weekend.
The round three championship clash takes place this Saturday July1, at 3pm in Cusack Park.
A victory for the Clare side will see them through to the quarter-finals of the All Ireland Senior series.
On the other side of the coin a similar prospect lies ahead for Cork.
If the rebels carve out a win against Clare they will progress through to the next round of the competition.
Speaking on Clare FM, Clare Hehir said: “It has taken us a while to get belief behind us that we are as good if not better than teams like Cork. It does help to see so many people on the sidelines and it’s fantastic to see so many young girls on the sideline cheering us on and we want to continue that this weekend.”
Clare opened their championship win over Down, before suffering a narrow defeat to Galway.
The Inagh-Kilnamona’s player continued by saying how great it would be to get to the knock-out stages of the senior competition.
Hehir stated: “It would mean so much to the squad. With the effort that has been put in with this squad the last few years it is the least that ourselves and the coaches deserve. Faith is in our own hands for this game.”
