Over €850k funding for Cliffs of Moher and more Clare adventure tourism projects

Over €850,000 in funding has been allocated for Clare outdoor recreation projects.

The Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys TD, has announced a €16.1 million investment in outdoor recreation projects right across the country.

The funding is for projects such as greenways, blueways, forest parks and cycling routes.

New walking trails will be established for the first time, along with projects that will support outdoor sports such as kayaking, paddle-boarding, swimming and other water-based activities.

Three projects in Clare will receive a total of €857,120 in funding.

In announcing the huge investment in outdoor projects, Minister Humphreys said that “our beautiful outdoors have never been more available to us than today. With the summer months upon us, now is the time to enjoy the wonderful amentities right on our doorstep.”

The Tuamgraney Trail Head & Trail Linkage Project has been allocated €191,700 to develop a trail-head and a 480m trail linking the settlement of Tuamgraney to the existing Lough Derg Blueway Amenity trail.

There is also €500,000 in funding for repair and upgrade works to two sections of the existing coastal path on the Cliffs of Moher; a 1300m section from Hags Head towards the Cliffs of Moher Centre and a 1800m section from Lough towards Doolin.

Commenting on the funding announcement, Fianna Fail TD for county Clare Cathal Crowe said that while he might be "biased", it was great to see this investment.

"Clare has some of the best outdoor recreation/adventure tourism offerings in the country," he said.
