A MAN is being questioned by gardai following a significant drugs seizure at Shannon Airport this Wednesday.

As part of an intelligence-led operation, a total of 30kg of herbal cannabis, with an estimated value of €600,000, was seized after it was located in a passenger's luggage at the airport.

The seizure was made as part of a joint operation conducted by members of An Garda Síochána and Revenue’s Customs Service.

Gardai say a man, aged in his 20s, was arrested following the seizure and he is currently detained in a garda station in the Clare-Tipperary division under the provisions of Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.

Subject to court orders, he can be detained without charge for up to 72 hours.
