Gardai are investigating the theft of a Toyota Avensis car which had 'broken down' while being driven on the M18 motorway close to Ennis.
Gardai say they were alerted to the theft on Sunday night and that investigations into the bizarre incident are ongoing.
"On Sunday night, Ennis gardaí took a report of a stolen vehicle from the motorway. The owner of the vehicle reported that their car broke down on the motorway at 6.30pm near Skehanagh," said crime prevention officer Sergeant Catriona Holohan.
Skehanagh is located to the south east of Ennis, close to junction 12 on the M18, Limerick to Galway motorway.

Appealing for information, Sgt Holohan said: "The owner left the car to seek help and when they returned with a tow vehicle, the car had been stolen. The vehicle is described as a black Toyota Avensis."
Gardaí in Ennis are appealing to anyone who may have observed any persons or vehicles near this black Toyota Avensis between 6.30pm and 9.30pm last Sunday to please contact them on 065 6848100.
Investigations are ongoing.
