Gardai are also appealing to anyone who has been approached and offered coal for sale in suspicious circumstances to contact them
Witnesses are being sought after cold-hearted thieves stole several bags from outside a home in Ennistymon.
In an appeal, gardai say the incident happened in broad daylight on February 14 - Valentine's Day.
"Ennistymon gardaí are investigating the theft of a number of bags of coal from
the rear yard of a residential property in Ennistymon. A number of bags of coal was stolen from a residential home in the Ard
Donagh estate in Ennistymon," said a spokesperson.
Garda say the theft occurred "during the course of the day and evening" and they are appealing to anyone who saw anything suspicious, including suspicious vehicles, to come forward.
Given the quantity of coal that was taken, gardai believe the culprit or culprits used some form of transport to remove it from the property.
