Large crowds gathered at Clare's first motorway service station this Friday as it officially opened its doors, following more than a decade of delays.

The Banner Plaza, which cost almost €20m to construct, is located close to Junction 12 on the M18 motorway, just outside of Ennis.

Supermac's boss, Pat McDonagh, was one of those who attended the opening of the premises, which will employ more than 100 people.

Commenting following the opening of the new facility, local Cllr Pat Daly said he expects it will attract a significant number of customers.

"It's a great facility and I met a girl who served me a cup of coffee from Doora so there is great employment and locals are going to get employment and it's mainly a passing trade but it will be promoting Ennis and the county - it can do nothing but good for the county," he told Clare FM.

The plaza features a vibrant food court with Supermac’s, Papa John’s Pizza, Mac’s Place Deli, Moo Parlour, Supersubs, Mama Rich’s Asian Cuisine, and a Brú Barista Coffee counter, all complemented by a spacious and comfortable seating area.

Visitors will also find a Spar convenience store and Texaco fuel pumps, open daily from 6am to 12am, with a 24-hour service hatch for added convenience.

The Banner Plaza also provides EV charging points for electric vehicles, along with dedicated parking for trucks and buses.
