The construction in Ennis town is nearing completion just in time for the Christmas lights and holiday celebrations.
The Ennis Public Realm Works is set to reach a significant milestone by the end of November, with the main construction phase coming to an end ahead of the festive season.
From Wednesday, November 26, vehicles will be able to access all routes through the town centre, with the exception of O’Connell Street, which will remain closed to traffic until February 16.
Jason Murphy, Clare County Council Director of Service for Ennis MD, said: “This milestone marks an important moment for the town. As major construction works come to an end, we look forward to seeing O’Connell Street without the disruption of traffic and ongoing works. This will give both businesses and visitors a chance to experience the area in a new way, while also providing an opportunity for the community to give feedback on potential future developments.”

This closure will create an opportunity for the public, businesses, and visitors to weigh in on the future of O’Connell Street, including traffic flow and potential pedestrianisation plans.
Clare County Council has revealed they will launch an online survey on December 8, 2025, inviting feedback from the community, which will remain open until January 4, 2026.
In mid-January, Clare County Council will initiate a formal Section 38* process, inviting further submissions from the public.
Mayor of Ennis, Cllr Mary Howard, urged the public to engage in the consultation process, explaining: “Your feedback is crucial in shaping the future of O’Connell Street. Together, we can ensure the town centre meets the needs of everyone, creating a vibrant, welcoming space for all.”
While the majority of the works will be completed, minor changes and finishing works are expected to continue into the New Year.
