Clare native appointed to top local authority role in the Banner

Tumgraney's Gordon Daly has been appointed as Chief Executive of Clare County Council

A senior official at Limerick City and County Council is set to cross the county boundary to become chief executive of Clare County Council.

Tuamgraney native, Gordon Daly will succeed another former Limerick council boss, Pat Dowling, in the role.

He is currently Deputy Director General of Limerick City and County Council, working closely with Director General Dr Pat Daly and Mayor of Limerick John Moran.

A native of Tuamgraney near Scariff in east Clare, Mr Daly has had more than 25 years of experience in Irish local government, including at Clare County Council where he worked as a planner.

As well as being deputy director general, he is also the director of corporate services, human resources and organisational development on Limerick’s local authority.

He has worked for Limerick City and County Council since 2015.

In that time, he has been involved in the opening of the 40km Limerick Greenway which has received more than one-and-a-half million visitors since 2021.

He has also played a big role in getting a €5m athletics hub opened in Newcastle West.

Economic, tourism, community and rural development have all come under his auspices in Limerick.

And he was also among those leading preparations for the 2027 Ryder Cup, which is taking place in Adare.

His late father Peadar was a native of Ballingarry in County Limerick
