Shannon Airport was one of the warmest places in the country on Friday, Met Eireann has revealed.

According to the national forecaster, the mercury hit 23.1 degrees at Shannon -  the fifth highest temperature recorded at its 25 weather stations across the country.

In its latest update, Met Éireann, Saturday will be another largely fine and dry day with good spells of sunshine and light breezes.

However, a touch more cloud will develop later in the afternoon turning the sunshine a little hazy. Highest temperatures of 18 to 21 degrees.

Becoming a little cloudier later in the evening with one or two isolated showers but most areas will stay dry. Some mist and fog patches overnight with lowest temperatures of 11 to 13 degrees.

According to Met Éireann, it will be "rather cloudy" to begin on Sunday morning with isolated showers. The showers will become a little more widespread for a time during the afternoon.

Highest temperatures of 16 to 18 degrees can be expected on Sunday with light winds.
