RTÉ executives to appear before Oireachtas committee as financial pressures continue

SENIOR RTÉ executives will face further questions from members of the Oireachtas Committee on Media this Wednesday afternoon, when it meets for the first time since the summer vacation.

The majority of RTÉ's Board members are due to attend the public hearing along with Director General Kevin Bakhurst and other senior managers at the national broadcaster.

Revelations that more €600,000 in car allowances were paid out by the broadcaster last year and the ongoing fallout from the Ryan Tubridy controversy are expected to dominate the agenda. Questions about the much-criticised Toy Show The Musical are also expected.

Ahead of this Wednesday's meeting, a large quantity of documentation was submitted by RTÉ to the TDs and Senators on the committee.

The material includes some details relating to the proposed contract which would have seen Ryan Tubridy return to his radio show in September.

RTÉ published its 2022 annual report last week which showed it had a deficit of €2.8m over the 12 months.
