Investigating gardai say the road remains closed at this time pending a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators
Investigations are underway after an elderly woman died in a multi-vehicle road crash in County Clare.
Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of the fatal incident on the R473 at Kilcarroll, Kilrush at approximately 2pm this Sunday.
They say the driver and sole occupant of one of the cars, a woman in her 80s, was pronounced deceased at the scene and that her body has since been removed to the mortuary at University Hospital Limerick.
No other injuries were reported.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to the collision to come forward.
"Any road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam, and who were travelling in the area at the time are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.
