Clare County Council have confirmed they are looking into areas suitable for installations of environmentally friendly outdoor showers after a "noticeable increase in the number of swimmers and dippers" in recent years.
This news comes as a result of the West Clare Municipal District (MD) meeting, where Fianna Fáil Councillor Rita McInerney issued a notice of motion on the topic.
In a response to this, John O’Malley, Senior Executive Officer of the West Clare Municipal District, noted the increase in swimmers using locations such as Cappa and White Strand in Doonbeg.

Mr O'Malley said, "There have been some improvements to these areas with works carried out at the public facilities in Cappa and foot showers in the White Strand. There is a longer term plan around the Cappa Enhancement Strategy which includes future improvements to facilities but in the shorter term the MD are currently assessing the possibility of installing environmentally friendly outdoor showers at this location."
While seasonal temporary facilities are provided at White Strand, Doonbeg, the provision of additional environmentally friendly outdoor showers at this location are also being considered.
