During the trips, representatives of the Government will emphasise that Ireland is a small, open economy with its economic success rooted in its willingness to build partnerships.

Ministers and Ministers of State will also highlight Irish investment overseas and the success of companies that have chosen Ireland as their base in Europe.

Mr Martin says the visits by ministers are "important, given our global trading position, and also to meet with the Irish diaspora and Irish communities across the globe who celebrate St Patrick's Day".

While it has been confirmed that Timmy Dooley will visit Canada next month, further details of his itinerary have yet to be announced.
