Clare TD Timmy Dooley says he's deeply honoured to have been offered a 'challenging' Minister of State role by the new government.

The Fianna Fail TD, who regained his seat in Dáil Éireann last November, has been appointed as Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine with special responsibility for Fisheries and at the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications with special responsibility for the Marine.

"I’m deeply honoured to take on this challenging role and I promise to work night and day to do the job," he said after meeting with Taoiseach Micheal Martin at Government buildings in Dublin during the week.

"I’m acutely conscious that none of this would be possible without the support of the voters in Clare and the enormous help and assistance of all my friends family and of course the Fianna Fáil family who worked so hard to elect me to the Dail. Thank you all so much," the former senator added in a post on social media.

Deputy Dooley is one of 23 Ministers of State whose appointment was approved by members of the Cabinet on Wednesday.
