Frost famine in Clare to be explored in free talk in local library

A free talk which outlines a unique historical story of Co Clare is taking place in a popular local venue.

Kilkee Civic Trust (KCT) is hosting its third of nine talks is on Wednesday, July 17 at 8pm in Cultúrlann Sweeney, Kilkee.

The title of the talk is Remembering Kilcasheen and the Frost Famine of 1740-41. The speaker is Professor David Dickson of Emeritus of Modern History at Trinity College Dublin.

The talk will explore the series of 'strange' weather events which contributed to a big human impact in west Clare and surrounding areas. Munster was the epicentre of the crisis and was badly affected by the famine, which will be explored.

Admission to all KCT talks are free of charge.

A donations box is also available at each KCT Talk, to assist us in defraying essential and necessary expenses. Donations will be shared on a 50 / 50 basis with the “Cairde Chill Caisín” group.
