Wind turbine gets go-ahead in Clare

A WIND turbine has been given the green light by An Bord Pleanála to be built.

A singular wind turbine, which will be located at Gortatogher, Parteen, has now been confirmed for development after revised permission was granted.

The turbine, which stands at 73m tall, had been previously granted permission by Clare County Council but having faced objections and appeals before, An Bord Pleanála reconsidered the matter.

Clare County Council previously directed the decommission and removal of the turbine for “non-compliance with planning permission” in 2021.

It has now been found to meet relevant criteria and therefore, will begin to be installed in time, subjected to a number of specific conditions.

Consent was granted almost a decade ago to Seamus Madden to erect a single 800kW turbine, a rotor diameter of 53 metres in the Clare/Limerick border location.

The turbine's position was reconsidered and permission now granted for a revised site boundary and revised position.
