CLARE County Council have lifted bathing prohibitions at a popular spot on the shores of Lough Derg.
Following additional investigative sampling and on the advice of the HSE, the council lifted restrictions at both Ballycuggeran and Mountshannon on Tuesday morning.
The restrictions had been in place since September 8, due to the presence of an algal bloom at the bathing area and at the pier.
Blue green algae can produce harmful toxins. Such toxins have been known to be harmful to animals that drink the water and skin rashes have occurred in humans following contact.
