Wayne Johnston, Limerick DPD celebrates the depot transitioning to electric vehicles, with Stephen Tummon, Sustainability Programme Manager, DPD Ireland
PARCEL delivery company DPD has rolled out a fleet of electric vehicles to service customers in Limerick city and parts of County Clare.
All diesel vans have been removed from DPD Ireland’s routes within Limerick city, and parcel deliveries in the city and its surrounds will now be made by electric vehicles, making Limerick DPD Ireland’s first ‘green city’.
The move is part of a wider initiative by DPD Ireland which is on a journey of fleet electrification to reduce CO2 per parcel by 30% by 2025. The company is also aiming to decarbonise its Irish fleet by 2030.
Located in Annacotty, the Limerick City depot has a fleet of 11 electric vehicles, delivering 500,000 parcels each year.
Wayne Johnson, Limerick City depot owner at DPD Ireland, commented: “I’m delighted to be serving the city of Limerick with electric vehicles, and proud for Limerick to be the first city within the DPD Ireland network to be 100% fully electric. The staff are proud to be ambassadors on our journey to be Ireland’s most sustainable parcel delivery company.”
Stephen Tummon, Sustainability Programme Manager at DPD Ireland, said: “I’d like to thank Wayne and the team for their commitment and foresight in leading the way with our continued rollout of EVs. The reduction in emissions for Limerick supports our commitment to achieve net- zero emissions by 2040.”
