Doolin Coast Guard located and transported the hiker to a waiting ambulance

A hiker has been resucued from the cliff walk near Doolin this Tuesday afternoon.

Doolin Coast Guard were tasked by Valencia Marine Rescue Sub Centre (MRSC) to assist a hiker on the cliff walk between Doolin and the Cliffs of Moher at around 1pm this Tuesday, August 27.

"The casualty was located and assessed before being transported and handed over to the HSE ambulance crew," the Irish Coast Guard said in a post on social media X.

A five kilometre stretch of the Cliffs of Moher trail has been temporarily closed to the public as enhancement works are carried out in the wake of a number of fatal accidents in recent months.

Clare Local Development Company (CLDC) have begun works on improving safety measures at points where walkers most commonly step off the official 14 kilometre trail.

The improvements come just weeks after the death of a 12-year-old boy at the Cliffs, and a 17-year-old boy fell to his death from the cliffs onto rocks in July.

A young woman, believed to have been an international student, also tragically lost her life in May this year after falling while sightseeing.
