The plan would be used in the event of adverse or severe weather conditions

A Community Crisis Response Plan has been added to the agenda for the consideration of the local community development committee (LCDC), it has been revealed.

In a Notice of Motion submitted by Fianna Fáil Councillor Joe Killeen, he asked the Clare County Council to support having a key role in the coordination of community development in the county, also calling on the LCDC to consider the development of this plan with the commitment of agencies and organisations represented by the LCDC.

The Councillor called for support from communities and other stakeholders in the coordination of future response efforts that may arise from severe or adverse weather events, also asking that the LCDC explore funding opportunities locally and nationally to support this delivery.

The Clare LCDC was established for the purposes of developing, coordinating and implementing a coherent and integrated approach to local and community development. As a Statutory Committee of Clare Council, it supports local collaboration by actively working with Local Authority Members, State Agencies, people working with local development, community development and economic, and cultural and environmental organisations to implement a joined up cross sectoral approach to local and community development programming.

The LCDC's role also involves the coordination, planning and overseeing of local and community development funding while pursuing additional funding for Clare.

In a written reply to Cllr Killeen's motion, Ann Reynolds, A/Director of Service, said, "The next meeting of the Clare LCDC is 21st May 2025 and the Chief Officer of the LCDC has been asked to include this initiative on the agenda for the consideration of the LCDC Members in terms of its development, coordination and specifically potential funding sources."
