Tourism boost for Clare as Galway-Shannon Expressway service returns for the summer

Expressway says the X51 service will comprise four daily departures each way with services linking key flight arrival and departure times at Shannon Airport

Expressway has announced its summer X51 service from Galway to Shannon Airport will return next week - delivering a boost for passengers who want to fly from Shannon.

The transport company says the service will comprise four daily departures each way with services linking key flight arrival and departure times at Shannon Airport, including customers travelling on transatlantic morning flights. This summer service compliments the 14 daily return services on the Expressway Route 51.

"The X51 service will deliver hundreds of additional seats to and from Shannon Airport daily, providing excellent connectivity between the Galway and the Atlantic seaboard’s busiest airport – with its expanding international network of services to 36 destinations across 11 countries including mainland Europe, the United Kingdom and the USA," said a spokesperson for Expressway.

From this Sunday, April 27, the X51 service will operate non-stop from Galway Bus Station to Shannon Airport departing daily at midnight, 2:45am, 5:45am and 9pm.

Return services from Shannon Airport to Galway city will operate at 1:15am, 4:15am, 7:15am and 10:30pm.

All customers are advised to book in advance to avoid disappointment and to guarantee a seat on their preferred service.

At the launch of the new summer service, Andrew Yates, Head of Expressway said: The Expressway X51 service offers Galway customers fast, direct connections to and from Shannon Airport. By using Expressway services, we take the stress out of travelling, while you sit back, relax onboard and avoid the airport travel stress."

Ray O’Driscoll, Chief Operating Officer at The Shannon Airport Group added: "We are delighted that our partnership with Expressway will see the welcome return of the X51 bus service between Galway and Shannon Airport. This direct service will enhance connectivity for business travellers and tourists alike, offering seamless access to our extensive range of flight options to Europe, the UK, and the US. As we anticipate a busy summer season at Shannon Airport with 332 weekly flights, this service will be important in supporting the increased passenger traffic and ensuring a smooth travel experience."
