An investigation is underway after a large amount of cash was paid to suspected bogus tradesmen who called to the home of an elderly resident in Shannon.

"Bogus tradesmen called to an elderly person in the Fergus Drive area and took a large payment for a small paint job and some gutter cleaning," said Garda Albert Hardiman.
"The money paid was much larger than the small amount of work carried out," he added.

Gardai say they are seeking to speak with anybody who saw anyone suspicious in the Fergus Drive area on April 8 or who has any information about the people who called to the elderly person's home.
