Major protest planned at Shannon Airport to mark one year of war in Gaza

Pro-Palestinian groups call for end to use of Shannon by US military
A major demonstration is planned at Shannon Airport to mark one year of Israel's war on Gaza, and to protest the use of the airport by US military.
The protest, set to take place on Saturday, October 12, will bring together a number of pro-Palestinian groups, including Shannonwatch, Cairde Palestine Belfast, Mothers Against Genocide and Dublin for Gaza.
Cork-based comedian Tadhg Hickey, who has been an outspoken advocate for a ceasefire and an end to the coflict between Isreal and Hamas, has called on people to join the protest, set for 1pm on Saturday.
"On our own doorstep, Shannon airport continues to facilitate U.S. military stopovers, so we are directly implicated in the daily war crimes being visited upon our Palestinian brothers and sisters, and indeed now also in Lebanon," he said in a statement.
"If we are truly serious about standing up against genocide, we need to do what this craven Irish government is so unwilling to do – we must stop our airports being used by U.S. military, which is Israel’s number one supplier of funds, fighter jets, weapons, and bombs."
Local activist group Shannonwatch will also hold their monthly peace vigil at Shannon Airport on Sunday October 13, at 2pm.
