Several GAA matches across the country were called off this Sunday due to dense fog which descended on many parts of the country. Horse racing at Naas was also abandoned after the first race of the day.
The opening match of the season for the All-Ireland SHC champions Limerick was cancelled less than an hour before throw-in due to dense fog in Mallow.
The Coop Superstores Munster Hurling League fixture was a sell-out and it remains unclear if and when it will now be played.
In Leinster, the Dioralyte Walsh Cup match between Carlow and Kilkenny was also postponed due to fog while the fixture between Offaly and Galway was abandoned after 55 minutes.
The All-Ireland football club semi-finals - played in Newry and Thurles - were also under threat due to poor weather conditions but both fixtures went ahead and the winners - St Brigid's (Roscommon) and Glen (Derry) - will now clash in the final at Croke Park on January 21.
Elsewhere, the horse racing meeting at Naas was abandoned after the first race of the day in the interests of safety for horses, jockeys and members of the public.
A status yellow fog warning for Ireland, which has been issued by Met Éireann, remains valid until 10am on Monday.
