Clare Museum in Ennis will host a morning of exploration and sketching with visual artist Leigh O’Connell for children between the ages of 8 to 12.

Taking place on Saturday, June 7, from 11am to 1pm, little ones will explore the objects in the museum, choose their favourite one and create sketches inspired by that object.

They can then choose their own favourite sketch to leave at the museum, where it will be used in a temporary exhibition before being returned to them.

Leigh O’Connell works with various mediums and enjoys community work, which equips her to work with whatever medium is needed for the project at hand. The form and function of art pieces are an intricate part of Leigh’s practice; she is a strong believer in recycling materials where possible and in bringing new life to old things; be that a plastic bottle or a disused wall.

As a youth Volleyball coach of over 20 years and with a previous life as an administrator in a Youth Mental Health Service, Leigh has a particular interest in youth engagement, especially in rural communities where they are often the forgotten element in local communities.

This is a free event funded by Creative Ireland Clare, as part of Creative Ireland’s Cruinniú na nÓg initiative.

Places are limited and must be booked. To avail of this, please email: claremuseum@clarecoco.ie
