Warnings of dangerous travel conditions and flooding as weather alerts come into effect

MET Éireann is warning of dangerous travel conditions and localised flooding in many parts of the country as the latest weather warnings have come into effect.
Status orange rain warnings for three counties - Kilkenny, Wexford, Waterford - came into effect at 4am this Monday while status yellow warnings are in place for 14 other counties.
The national forecaster is warning of "heavy and persistent rain with thundery downpours possible" until 4am on Tuesday - particularly in the south east of the country.
With many lands already saturated from the persistent rainfall over the past week due to Storm Babet, localised flooding is possible and motorists are being urged to exercise caution if travelling.
According to the latest forecast, the rain will gradually spread further to the north and east this afternoon followed by a mix of cloud and isolated showers pushing in from the southwest.
Highest temperatures this Monday will range from 10 to 14 degrees.
