Localised flooding in counties affected by Orange Weather warning

Status Orange Rain warning for in place for Cork, Kerry and Waterford

There is localised flooding in parts of Cork and Kerry as "persistent" and heavy rain continues to fall along the south coast of Ireland.

An Orange Rain Warning is in place for Cork, Kerry and Waterford until midnight this Saturday, October 5.

Four more counties - Clare, Limerick, Galway and Mayo - are currently under a yellow rain warning for the day also.

Potential impacts include river and coastal flooding, and travel disruption.

Cork County Council has warned that certain tributaries of the River Lee may become overwhelmed leading to localised river flooding.

County council crews are on alert with pumps and sandbags in place in high risk areas such as Bantry in west Cork, and the city council is remains on alert, though tidal surge forecasts indicate Cork city centre is unlikely to flood along its quay.

Kerry County Council says that crews are dealing with a number of localised flooding issues around the county, while Waterford City and County Council say they will continue to monitor the situation.

With coastal levels elevated, onshore winds and potential for wave overtopping, the Irish Coast Guard is appealing to people to 'Stay Back, Stay High, Stay Dry' and ESB Networks is highlighting the dangers posed by fallen live wires and is advising the public and the emergency services to stay away from these fallen cables and to report such cases to it immediately.
