LATEST: People warned to expect power outages and more ahead of Status Yellow wind warning

This comes as over 3,500 people are still left without broadband following Storm Éowyn just weeks ago

Weather expert Cathal Nolan from Ireland's Weather Channel has warned people to expect widespread disruptions ahead of the Status Yellow wind warning in place for several counties over the weekend.

Met Éireann has issued the warning for seven counties on Friday, 21 February. The first of the warnings will come into effect for Cork and Kerry at 4am on Friday. The warning for Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow and Waterford will be valid from 6am until 10am.

According to Met Éireann, counties issued the Status Yellow warning will experience "very strong and gusty southerly winds" which will lead to dangerous driving conditions during peak morning rush hour as roads are at risk of fallen debris and trees.

Cathal Nolan, one of the country's favourite weathermen, has said that we can expect gusts up to 80 and 90km/h across parts of south and east Munster, south and east Leinster and much of east Ulster. Coastal areas could even see winds up to 110km/h, leading to concerns of "coastal overtopping."

Counties worst impacted by the wind warning could experience widespread disruptions including power and internet outages, dangerous road conditions as well as public transport disruptions.

This will be bad news for thousands of people across the country who were left stranded without power after Storm Éowyn last month. According to the latest figures from communications regulator ComReg, at least 3,500 people are still without broadband following the historic storm.
