Sunny spells and scattered showers set the tone for the weekend

Storm Lilian now seems to be going on to ruin a bank holiday weekend in the UK, but she leaves some sunny spells in her wake here in Ireland.

Carlow Weather's Alan O'Reilly has predicted "nice bright spells to start Friday with a mix of sunny spells and heavy scattered showers following".

Met Éireann are forecasting some heavy or prolonged with hail and isolated thunderstorms over Friday night, especially in the northwest, with spot flooding possible but these will mostly clear by Saturday morning.

Saturday will start off dry in many areas with sunny spells, with showers in the west gradually spreading eastwards and will become widespread in the afternoon.

Rain will develop in the west on Saturday night and will spread eastwards, with a mostly cloudy start to Sunday with outbreaks of rain, but drying off in the evening.

Temperatures over the weekend will range from 13 to 18 degrees, with moderate to fresh winds from the south and the west.
