Heavy lunchtime showers to be expected with thunder brewing from high temperatures

Thundery showers are due to develop across the day nationwide as high temperatures bring high pressure with them.

While most places across Ireland will see sunny spells this Thursday morning, lunchtime showers are due to develop.

Met Éireann have warned of spot flooding in some places as a result. Highs of 17°C to 22°C can be expected throughout the day.

Carlow Weather on X (formerly Twitter) predicts that a 'lovely morning' is due 'once fog clears', and that the south east of the country will likely experience the worst of the heavy showers this evening.

According to Met Éireann's forecast: "Sunny spells this Thursday morning, showers will develop by lunchtime turning heavy this afternoon with thunderstorms developing bringing the likelihood of spot flooding.

"There's a chance of sea fog encroaching onto coasts at times. Highest temperatures 17 to 22 degrees in light northerly or variable breezes.

"Becoming dry for many overnight, with clear spells. There'll be persistent rain in the east and southeast. Lowest temperatures 9 to 13 degrees in moderate northerly winds, fresher towards morning in the west and southwest.

"Rain and drizzle early tomorrow, Friday, sunny spells and showers will develop later in the day. Highest temperatures 16 to 19 degrees with moderate to fresh northerly winds."
