Full strength hurricane won't hit Ireland but jet stream could carry over some nasty weather

The tail end of Hurricane Ernesto could be making its way over to Ireland next week.

The tropical storm is currently tracking towards the island of Bermuda off the east coast of the United States, and is expected to grow to a Category 2 hurricane as it heads towards the Caribbean.

But however there's a possiblity that its remnants may make their way across to our side of the Atlantic by catching "a ride on the jet stream".

"The next hurricane this season is Ernesto and it could travel towards the Carribbean before the remnants of it potentially catch a ride on the Jet stream early next week," forecaster Alan O'Reilly, of Carlow Weather, shared.

The jet stream is a fast, narrow current of air flowing from west to east that blow across Earth, and could potentially carry the end of Hurricane Ernesto to Ireland.

However, it won't be a full strength hurricane by the time it reaches our shores.

"Path is uncertain but what is left could influence our weather later next week but a hurricane is NOT coming to Ireland," Alan said.

Met Éireann are currently forecasting lots of dry weather overall but with a few showers for this weekend.
