A LIMERICK woman got to direct part of season two of hit TV series Hidden Assets, which was partly filmed in Clare.

Laura O’Shea worked as a shadow director on season two of Hidden Assets, the Belgian-Irish production created by Kin and Red Rock Creator, Peter McKenna.

Speaking of her role, she explained: “It’s kind of a relatively new role on sets, but essentially what it does is bring in directors who've maybe done a couple of short films or music videos, so they can gain a little bit more experience on larger sets.

“It allows directors to come in as a shadow, you get to watch the main director work, and you can ask questions and learn from them and things like that. So it kind of gives you a platform to train in a practical way, which was great.”

On set, she also got the opportunity to work as a second unit director, which means she was in charge of the show’s secondary crew.

“It was really fun. That's a nice credit for me to have as well at the end of the experience,” she said.

Episode 2 of Season 2 of the series will be broadcast on RTÉ One television this Sunday night.

Laura, who is originally from Janesboro in Limerick city was delighted to come home to the Mid-West for such a big production.

“It was really fun to come home to Limerick for four weeks and film in parts of the city that I would've grown up nearby. That was a lot of fun to see a production of such large scale,” Laura said.

Speaking of the second season, she added: “I know there's a lot of fans that were eagerly waiting from season one to see what happens to the characters in season two. So hopefully they're not disappointed, I think it's turned out really great.”

If there is one thing she learned on set, it’s that it does indeed take a village.

Laura noted: “The biggest thing I learned is that it really does take a village to make these kind of productions work and there's lots and lots of people involved in the tiniest of decisions and it really is a people business

“I think putting people first and how you treat each other first is really valuable in making for a nice environment on set. That’s something I witnessed from both directors that I got to shadow, they were incredibly good with dealing with people and making everybody feel happy to be at work,” Laura said.”

Now, she has big plans for the future.

“I'm hoping to keep training, keep getting more experience on TV sets, feature film sets and hopefully in the next while, try and get my own experience directing some TV.  I think that's that's the main aim for now,” she concluded.

Hidden Assets series 2 is also available on the RTÉ player.
