The road to a more reliable water supply is in sight for Alva, Creegh in Co Clare as Uisce Éireann crews are gearing up to arrive this coming week.

The team are making it their mission to revive the water supply in the village area, with works taking place along the R483.

As part of Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme, a replacement will be carried out on 800m of aged water mains that are prone to bursts.

Jack Cronin, Uisce Éireann programme manager, is eager to get to work in the area, and deliver great benefits for the community.

He said, “Leakage reduction remains a notable priority for the banner county and replacing these old water mains that are in poor condition will ensure a more sustainable water supply, eliminate existing leaks, and significantly reduce the amount of clean drinking water lost into the ground, protecting our most precious resource. We would like to thank the local community for their support and patience in advance as we carry out these essential works."

To safely and efficiently deliver the project, traffic management will be in place in the form of traffic lights along the R483, Alva, Creegh, Co Clare.

Ward and Burke Construction Ltd is carrying out the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann, with the project expected to be complete by the end of summer 2025.

Identifying and repairing these leaks will help Uisce Éireann to achieve their 2030 goal of a 25% national leakage rate. The National Leakage Reduction team has made great strides since 2018, when the leakage rate stood at 46%.

Members of the public can report any leaks in the water network by contacting Uisce Éireann at 1800 278 278 or online at 'Report a Leak.'
