CLARE County Council are encouraging members of the public to give their input on how Clare’s library services can be enhanced.

Following an online consultation process, the council is running a number of focus groups this week, ahead of its Clare Library Development Plan for 2023 to 2027.

The plan will “shape the development of Clare Libraries’ services and facilities over the next five years”, and will incorporate contributions from stakeholders such as the ETB, Childcare Committee, Older People’s Council of Clare as well as library staff and members of the public.

The previous plan covered the period 2016-2021 and achieved success in a number of areas: a new library building in Ennis, the refurbishment of Kilrush library, the installation of a sensory garden in Shannon and Ennistymon libraries, Age Friendly accreditation, autism friendly services and success in children's services.

The new development plan is being prepared within the guidelines outlined in the National Library Strategy 2023 - 2027 and against the backdrop of other policies such as the Clare County Council Development Plan 2023 – 2029 and the Local Economic and Community Plan 2023 -2029.

Analysis of feedback from the survey and focus groups will happen during July and August, and the plan will be drafted and submitted from September to December 2023.
