Shannon-based company granted permission for large solar panel development

Engine Lease Finance Corporation, one of the world’s leading engine financing and leasing companies, has been granted permission to install more than 100 solar panels at its headquarters in Shannon.

The company, which also has offices in Boston, London, and Singapore, plans to install a 62 kW ground-mounted Solar PV System at lands within the Shannon Free Industrial zone.

The solar system, which will significantly reduce the company's use of electricity from the grid, is to be installed on what is currently a green area to the rear of the building.

The company's premises is located on the outskirts of Shannon town close to the N19 road which connects Shannon to the motorway network.

As part of the planning process, the applicant was required to conduct a road traffic assessment and a "glint and glare study" - both of which were considered by local authority planners.

A number of State agencies, including the Shannon Airport Group and  the Irish Aviation Authority were also consulted but no significant issues of concern over the proposed development emerged.

In formally granting permission, Clare County Council imposed a small number of conditions - all of which are technical in nature.
