Palestinian flag to fly for a week over Clare council headquarters

Clare County Council voted to fly the flag at the council’s HQ in 'symbolic act' of solidarity
The Palestinian flag will be flown outside Áras Contae an Chláir from for one week from this Tuesday as a show of solidarity.
At the adjourned October meeting of Clare County Council, members voted to fly the flag at the council’s HQ to highlight the council’s "support for international law, the International Court of Justice and the principles of human rights".
Councillor for Ennis Municipal District Tommy Guilfoyle put forward the motion at the council meeting on October 15, where councillors also voted to call on the government to enact the Occupied Territories Bill and cut ties with Israel.
Cllr Guilfoyle's motion called for the Palestinian flag to be flown outside the Áras as a symbolic act of solidarity with the Palestinian people.
"We currently have people living in Ennis now who have come from Palestine, men, women and children and to fly their flag at a moment when their country has been decimated for one week outside the hall of their new local government when they become new Irish, I think they'll never forget that," the Sinn Fein councillor said after his motion was passed unanimously.
Councillors also voted in favour of a motion put forward by Cllr Guilfoyle's Shannon party colleague, Cllr Donna McGettigan, which called on the "Irish Government to enact the Occupied Territories Bill, to cut Irish trade ties with Israeli goods and services produced in these illegal settlements".
The flag will fly for one week outside Áras Contae an Chláir in Ennis until Tuesday, November 5.
