Newmarket-on-Fergus 'cannot afford any more delays' over wastewater upgrade

Questions raised with An Bord Pleanála over delay in decision for Boheraroan facility upgrade
Questions have been raised with An Bord Pleanála as to why a decision on an appeal relating to the additional waste water treatment at the Boheraroan facility for Newmarket-onFergus was not made when expected.
Newmarket on Fergus is one of 52 towns and villages throughout County Clare that does not have access to adequate waste water infrastructure at present.
Clare County Council refused to grant planning permission for the construction of 51-unit housing development in Newmarket-on-Fergus in 2020 due to what was deemed inadequate sewerage infrastructure.
Fianna Fail Local Election candidate and Newmarket on Fergus native David Griffin has contacted An Bord Pleanála seeking clarification as to why an expected decision, due on Thursday, March 21, was not yet given.
"Newmarket on Fergus is a wonderful village, and is a great community, but the development of the area has been restricted in recent years by a lack of adequate waste water treatment capacity," Mr Griffin said.
"Cllr Pat McMahon has been pushing this issue hard for a number of years and was successful in having an expansion project added to Irish Water's capital programme and in receiving planning approval from Clare County Council in 2023. A huge step forward for the area. However, this was subsequently appealed to An Bord Pleanála."
"A decision on the appeal was due from An Bord Pleanala on March 21, however this decision has not yet come through. I have written to Irish Water and to An Bord Pleanála seeking an urgent update on this."
