Met Éireann issue status yellow weather warnings as ice and snow expected

Met Éireann have outlined the potential impacts as a result of the warning

Met Éireann have issued a series of weather updates for the country over the weekend including status yellow warnings which are set to affect several counties. 

A status yellow snow-ice warning was issued for Donegal on Friday morning. This will come into effect at 8pm on Friday evening and last until 11am on Saturday morning. 

The same warning was also issued for Antrim, Armagh, Down, Fermanagh, Tyrone and Derry in Northern Ireland which will be valid from 3pm on Friday afternoon until 11am on Saturday morning. 

A number of counties will also be affected by a snow-ice warning from Saturday including Cavan, Donegal, Monaghan, Louth and Connacht. This will begin at 6pm on Saturday evening and finish at 11am on Sunday morning. 

Potential impacts from this status yellow snow-ice warning for these counties consist of hazardous travelling conditions and poor visibility as well as wintry showers with some snow accumulations.

Met Éireann have also revealed that there will be a status yellow low temperature/ice weather warning for a host of counties such as Carlow, Dublin, Kildare, Kilkenny, Longford, Meath, Offaly, Westmeath, Wexford, Wicklow along with Munster as a whole. 

This warning is in place for 6pm on Saturday evening and will run until 11am on Sunday morning. 

The Irish Meteorological Service warns that temperatures could fall to between -2 and -4 degrees in many areas and Sharp or severe frost and icy stretches which may bring Hazardous Travel conditions.
