A fundraiser has been set up for a Co Kilkenny man who lost his sight after an accident.
Kevin Phelan from Gowran, suffered a life changing injury in December 2023, which resulted in losing sight in both eyes.
In a bid to help his family, his friend, Denis Quinlan, has set up a GoFundMe campaign.
“Kevin suffered life changing injury’s on December 20th 2023 when unloading lime from a tanker as part of his normal everyday duties. Kevin suffered extensive trauma to his eyes resulting in lose of sight in both eyes. He received the best possible care in the royal Victoria Hospital in Dublin, where he spent a full month receiving treatment. His latest prognosis is recovery of his sight is not guaranteed and will have to continue his recuperation and recovery at home for quite some time yet,” explained Denis.
Kevin, who has been described as a “devoted husband and father”, lives with his wife Martina and his sons, Charley and Sam, in Gowran.
“To help with the huge cost that Kevin and his family will endure a decision was made to set up a GoGundMe to help cover their unexpected expenses and relieve some of the financial strain on him and his family as Kevin is unable to work. Kevin’s main focus is his recovery at the moment,” Denis added.
