Council says 24-hour closure is to facilitate major works in the centre of Ennis

Clare County Council has announced plans to close a busy road in Ennis for nearly seven months.

In a public notice, the local authority says the closure of High Street - from Harvey’s Quay/Salt House Lane to Bank Place/O’ Connell Square - will be in place from January 6 to July 31.

The 24-hour closure is to facilitate the excavation of existing footpaths and carriageway surface which will enable the installation of new and the replacement of underground services and utilities.

Existing public lighting columns and lanterns will also be replaced with new columns and lanterns while the existing footpaths and carriageway surfaces will be replaced with natural stone and asphalt, new signage and road markings.

"There will be no through road from Salt House Lane to Bank Place/Abbey Street for the duration of the closure," states the notice which adds that a diversion route will be in operation from Harvey’s Quay via Old Friary Lane.
